Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Sakanoue blog.
Kyoto has captivated travelers for over a thousand years with its timeless beauty and rich heritage. But how else can we experience the multifaceted charm of this ancient capital?
From October 3, 2026, to February 28, 2027, the Saga Arashiyama Museum of Arts and Culture is hosting a special exhibition titled “Even More: Discover and Enjoy Kyoto Through Pictures.”
This exhibition showcases the allure of Kyoto from the early-modern to the modern period through Japanese paintings. Visitors can feast their eyes on depictions of iconic landmarks, traditional events such as the Aoi Matsuri, geiko and maiko, well-loved Kyoto vegetables, and even artistic packaging designs commissioned to top artists by long-standing local confectioneris. Viewing Kyoto through the eyes of artists reveals a fresh, deeper perspective on its culture and everyday life.
To make the experience even more engaging, the museum is hosting special lectures (covering topics such as Kyoto’ unique street names and the Hyakunin Isshu poetry), conversational-friendly days every Tuesday and Sunday, and a competitive karuta tornment.
If you are planning to visist Kyoto this autumn or winter, step inside and explore the artistic stories that bring this historic city to life!
