Hello from Ryokan Sakanoue!

When visiting Kyoto, many of our guests hope sto catch a glimpse of the mysterious and beautiful world of Maiko and Geiko. Today, we are thrilled to introduce a spectacular spot located just a short walk from our ryokan.

Whether you are a lover of traditional arts or simply looking for an unforgettable Kyoto experience, this museum offers an intimate look into a three-century-old culture.

Here are the highlights you shouldn’t miss:

• Permanent Exhibits of Authentic Culture: Step inside to see rare items ranging from exquisite hand-painted Kyoto Yuzen Kimono to the actual makeup and personal belongings used by Maiko and Geiko.
• Live Kyomai Dance Performance: You can watch these graceful dances performed up close by a real Geiko or Maiko-a rare opportunity that is normally very difficult to book!
• Exclusive Photo Session: Capture a lifelong memory by taking a commemorative photo with a Geiko or Maiko using your own smartphone.
• Historical Gardens & Lanterns: Stroll through the beautiful Chisen Water Garden (built in 1913) and enjoy the magical atmosphere at dusk when the traditional red lanterns light up the townscape.

After your tour, we highly recommend relaxingd at The Art Cafe inside the museum to enjoy match or chilled malt ginger, or picking up original postcards at the Museum Shop as the perfect souvenir.
